Consumer Food & Beverage Managing Director: Opportunistic Hire

Client:

A micro-elite boutique investment bank specializing in the consumer & retail sector.

Scope:

SLA reconnected with a known network contact who had left a large firm to establish their own boutique M&A platform.

Amid strong multi-year deal flow and a high-quality junior execution team, the founder of this platform indicated an opportunistic desire to diversify their consumer & retail sub-vertical exposure with entrepreneurial senior bankers that had strategic as well as private equity-backed relationships in the food & beverage space.

SLA’s Approach:

One particularly strong senior professional in our extensive consumer investment banking network had developed an interesting and sought-after niche within food & beverage: ingredients, proteins, and spices. This individual was looking to leave a rather bureaucratic firm for somewhere more entrepreneurial – they wanted to build a practice on a platform where they could have a distinct “swimming lane” in which to generate deals.

The partnership approach SLA takes with all searches proved especially key for this one. Consistency in maintaining our industry-wide relationships enabled members of our team to expeditiously facilitate the client-to-candidate introduction for this opportunistic hire.

Result:

This search proved successful: from initial introduction to offer socialization, SLA closed the placed candidate in approximately three weeks.

As a follow-up to this successful placement, this client has mandated SLA to seek junior bankers to further fortify the platform’s deal execution pool.
